I saw this shirt on Etsy that said “Hold on let me overthink this”

That’s pretty much me. I think things out and have this horrible tendency to want to get things just right.

Which usually means I end up thinking my ideas to death. Where they die a slow, painful death and never see the light of day.

The thing is, I wasn’t always like this.

I used to jump in with both feet, no thinking necessary.

My husband and I started dating shortly after we met.

A couple months later, we were official.

A couple months later, we were engaged.

Then we got pregnant.

Within 7 months of officially being boyfriend and girlfriend, we were married.

It was a whirlwind, but 13 years later, we’re still kicking.

I didn’t overthink things. I went with my gut.

If you find yourself spending more time thinking things through that actually doing the things, this is for you.

It’s time to get out of thinking and into doing. Here’s how.

#1 Identify the feeling

Doing starts with feeling. You need to get out of over-analyzing and into your emotions and actions. Because when it comes down to it, what you’re doing is trying to out-think and rationalize your feelings.

So the first step is to identify the feeling in whatever it is you’re aiming for.

Is it excitement or fear? What comes up for you? Name it.

Hint: If you’re stuck in thinking mode, chances are the feeling you’re feeling is NOT excitement, but something along the lines of fear, doubt, worry, anxiety.

#2 Face the feeling

If you keep avoiding it, you’re going to stay where you are. Plus, you’ll keep analyzing and you’ll just drive yourself crazy. So put on your big girl panties and let’s face this bitch.

What’s the reason behind the feeling? Chances are, it has nothing to do with the current situation. Identify the root.

If you can’t, here’s an exercise that can help:

Close your eyes
Identify the location of the feeling in your body
Ask your higher self/guides/angels to help you recall the root of this triggered feeling

#3 Change the feeling

Now that you know what feeling is keeping you stuck, let’s change the feeling.

What is the next best feeling you reach for?
What CAN you get excited about?

#4 Take action

After you’ve identified what you can get excited about, take action.

And then keep taking action. Fears and doubts will continue to come up. Continue facing the emotions behind the thoughts that go through your head. Because when you start to face the root emotion, that is when you can finally get out of thinking mode and into taking action.
